US colocation provider Intelishift has acquired competitor Data Canopy. Data Canopy was founded in 2007 and offers colocation, connectivity, and cloud services from dozens of data centers across the globe. It operates out of facilities owned by third parties, including CyrusOne, Equinix, NTT, DC Blox, and Digital Realty, among others.
Intelishift provides colocation across six US data centers in Denver, Colorado; Dallas, Texas; Louisville, Kentucky; Irvine and San Francisco, California; and Newark, Delaware. These facilities have a combined 88,000 square feet and 20 MW of power. The terms of the transaction were not made public. The merged organization will operate under the name Data Canopy. The acquisition was made possible by a $50 million investment from Metropolitan Partners Group, a private investment firm. According to the companies, the funding also supports future acquisitions and natural expansion initiatives.
The DNA of the two businesses is similar. Ryan Barbera, the current CEO of Data Canopy, served as CEO of Intelishift from 2010 to 2019. In 2019, Data Canopy acquired the government assets and clients of Intelishift Technologies. Intelishift was founded in 2010 and amalgamated with the Sidus group in 2018. Sidus (formerly Sidus BioData) has been owned by Bytegrid, a colocation and managed solutions firm, since 2015.
