NorthC Datacenters (NorthC) has partnered up with INNIO to use its Jenbacher Ready for H2 engine technology to deliver an emergency backup power solution for its newest data center, set to be constructed in Eindhoven, Netherlands. According to the company, if it is faced with electricity grid outages, it will turn to its six new Jenbacher hydrogen engines, which generate a total power output of six megawatts and will be delivered as a containerized package.
This selection of INNIO’s technology is part of a wider commitment to a carbon neutrality strategy, which will see the company go carbon neutral by 2030 through enacting the following four pillars: 100% green energy, modular construction, making efficient use of residual heat, and green hydrogen.
Speaking about the company’s partnership with INNIO, Jarno Bloem, COO of NorthC Datacenters, said that the company chose the energy solution and service provider because of its “long-term experience and proven track record with special gases,” like hydrogen. Jarno Bloem continued: “With INNIO’s Jenbacher hydrogen emergency backup power solution coupled with the renewable power sources from the electricity grid, we are able to decarbonize our complete energy supply infrastructure.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Olaf Berlien, president and CEO of INNIO, commented: “We are excited and proud to build the first 100% green hydrogen emergency backup power solution with engines for data centers globally together with NorthC. As a carbon-free energy source, hydrogen is an important pillar of the energy transition.”
