Icolo.io, part of Digital Realty, has announced that it is constructing a new data center based in Nyali, Mombasa. The MBA2 facility will span 1,200 sq m of floor space, with a capacity of 1.6MW. It is the company’s second data center in the city, and it’s third in total.

Expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2022, the facility will host more than 600 racks.

Speaking about the new build, CEO Ranjith Cherickel said: “This new facility will be the gateway to 200 million people living in the region bringing the content closer to the end-user thereby reducing latency and improving Internet experience for all.”

He added: “The size of the facility is also scaled to reflect the huge growth in connectivity that is unfolding in East Africa. We hope this new data center will be home to all new cables landing in the region.”
