Hourigan, a local developer has proposed a 320-acre data center campus outside Richmond, Virginia. The company has requested to rezone the land from agricultural to light industrial, noting that it expects to see around $1 billion invested in the project.

The company said in a filing with regulators, “Plans for the VAH Data Center Campus cannot be realized, and will not advance Henrico County’s or the Commonwealth’s economic development goals if businesses at the VAH Data Center Campus lack reliable access to adequate electrical supply, and this will require considerably more transmission capacity than existing facilities can provide.”

Details on the number and specifications of data centers planned for the campus have not been shared, and neither have any intended end customer been named.
