Bitcoin mining firm Hive Digital has announced plans to expand its hydroelectric-powered Yguazú data center in Paraguay by 100MW. The expansion will increase the data center's capacity to 400MW, with the facility powered solely by hydroelectric power from the Itaipu Dam on the Paraná River, located on the border between Brazil and Paraguay.

“Our expansion in Paraguay reinforces Hive’s long-term vision: scaling sustainable, low-cost digital infrastructure powered entirely by renewable energy. Operating across nine time zones, five languages, and three nations, Hive continues to execute with efficiency, innovation, and first-mover advantage,” said Frank Holmes, Hive’s executive chairman.

“This additional 100MW expansion brings Yguazú to full design capacity. Our engineering teams are ready—civil works and substation pads are complete,” said Gabriel Lamas, country president of Hive Paraguay.
