Google's Council Bluffs data center is complete, it has announced. This means the giant's investment in the city has now reached $5 billion.

Speaking about the company's investment in the area, Council Bluffs Mayor Matt Walsh said in a press release: "Google's $5 billion of capital investment represents an unprecedented financial commitment within the entire metropolitan area that is, by itself, staggering."

He added that Google's investment into the city has gone beyond financial expenditure and noted that in the last 15 years, it has helped out with education, business and Wi-Fi: "Through these and many other ways, Google has helped to turn Council Bluffs into a hub for technology, innovation and opportunity."

Dr Vickie Murillo, Superintendent of the Council Bluffs Community School District, noted that one of the ways Google has contributed to educational innovation in the area is through supplying 500 early-edition Chromebooks.
