Google has verified its involvement in the Lincoln, Nebraska, data center proposal. This week, the company announced it was constructing a third data center in Papillion and a data center in Lincoln. The search and cloud firm will invest $1.2 billion in the project.

Long suspected to be Google, the firm has been proposing a Lincoln data center through Agate LLC since 2019. In July 2019, Agate LLC filed for a 600 million-dollar data center campus in Lancaster County. Agate submitted a request to the United States Army Corps of Engineers to develop the data center earlier this year, according to local news reports.

Google is planning to develop two million square feet of data center space on over 570 acres of farmland in Lancaster County bound by N. 40th Street, Highway 77, Interstate 80, and Bluff Road, according to planning permission documents. A substation is located nearby on the other side of Highway 77.

The Agate shell company received approval for its request in September 2021 after purchasing the properties at 8905 and 9385 N 56th Street from Brager and White Family LLCs for approximately $18.6 million.
