Google has broken ground on a new data center in the Netherlands and has officially begun work on the facility in Winschoten, Groningen, in the north of the country.

Marco Ynema, data center lead in the Netherlands at Google, said, "People are increasingly using digital tools, and organizations and governments in the Netherlands are switching to the cloud. Google's commitment to the Netherlands is unprecedented and the start of construction of a new location in Winschoten today proves that. We are proud to have called the Netherlands our home for many years and look forward to many more years to come.”

Google describes this facility as a satellite to its existing Eemshaven site and intends to invest  €600 million into the new development, located at Hoogebrug 3.  Specifications and timelines for development have not been shared.
