Google Fredericia Denmark: Google acquires land in Fredericia, Denmark for potential data center development

Google has successfully bought more land in Denmark for potential data center developments. The search engine giant bought 1.29 million square feet (120,000 square meters) of land in Taulov, in Fredericia municipality, Denmark. Earlier in June 2017, Google bought a 73.2 hectare (7.8 million square feet) plot of land in Fredericia for $9.86 million. In the same year, it later bought another 131 acres of land in the Aabenraa municipality, south of Fredericia.

By 2018, Google announced that it plans to build a $690 million data center in Fredericia. Fast forward to 2020; the facility officially began operation. The Fredericia city council has now approved the sale of a business area with 120,000 square meters to Google. The newly approved area is an extension of Google’s current data center in Taulov. Aside from that, Google also got the council to approve a purchase right of additional 4 million square feet of land.

Arni Jonsson, data center manager for Google, said the company already has an excellent relationship with Fredericia. He added that the extra land allows Google to expand the data center in the future.
