At a Tower Hamlets Council meeting, the Strategic Development Committee in London has granted Global Switch permission to develop a new data center. Located on a car park adjacent to its existing London East and London North buildings at East India Dock House, 240 East India Dock Road, the facility will have 27,000 sqm of floor space within a part-six and part-seven story building. When operating at full capacity, it will have an energy consumption of 27,180MWh per year or 3.1MW.
While the facility has received approval, The Greater London Authority had raised concerns that it would significantly impact” on views of the listed East India Dock House. Likewise, Historic England raised concern over the facility as well and outlined that the proposals will cause some harm to the grade II* listed building. The company has responded by stating that it will be ‘the slimmest possible’.
