According to Bloomberg, ChinData Group Holdings has received initial acquisition interest from some firms in the data center industry. The report shows that GDS Holdings, backed by Bain Capital, is mulling bidding for the Chinese data center firm. EdgeConnex, backed by EQT, a private equity firm, is also weighing its options to bid for the company. Yet, ChinData's board hasn't considered any acquisition proposal despite the interests.
ChinData currently operates 15 facilities in Malaysia and China, with a total IT capacity of 361MW. Neither representatives from EQT nor Bain commented on the development when quizzed by Bloomberg. GDS was founded in 2006, and it operates numerous data centers across Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Shenzhen.
