Two workers were taken to hospital after a fire at the site of a new $11 billion Amazon data center in New Carlisle, Indiana which took place on Thursday morning at the site of the data center.
A spokesperson for the New Carlisle Fire Department told local news network WNDU that fire fighters found a significant amount of smoke in the building and the surrounding area. The area was evacuated, but two workers had sustained injuries and had to be airlifted from the scene and taken to hospital.
Amazon broke ground on the data center, which will be used by its cloud platform AWS, in October 2024. News of the development first emerged in April 2024, with the final seal of approval from planners arriving in August. Several buildings on the site have already been completed, but the entire project is expected to take up to a decade to complete. The campus could feature 22 buildings at full build-out, and Amazon says it will create 1,000 jobs.
