Colocation service provider atNorth will construct a new data center in the Helsinki region of Finland. This week, the firm revealed that it has struck a deal to acquire a new site in Finland, which would become its third data center in the nation. The facility, which was acquired from the local real estate firm Tallberg Group and is located on Sinimaentie in Espoo (greater Helsinki), will be operational by the third quarter of 2024 with an initial IT capacity of 15 MW. The acquisition terms were not disclosed. atNorth stated that heat reuse technology will ensure that the data center's residual heat is utilized to heat local residences.

in January, atNorth purchased two data centers in Helsinki from the IT services company Advania AB, from which it separated in 2017. FIN01 is in the Helsinki neighborhood of Vallila, while FIN03 is in Espoo. The aggregate capacity of the two buildings is 500 racks and 3.2 megawatts. atNorth was founded in 2012 as Advania Data Centers from three entities: Skyrr, an Icelandic public sector IT specialist; Kerfi, a Swedish company with roots in a Nokia spin-off named Datapoint; and Hands, a Norwegian firm. The company was spun out from the Advania Group in 2017 and relaunched in 2020 as atNorth. In December 2021, the Swiss investment manager Partners Group acquired the company.

The company has data centers in Keflavk and just outside of Reykjavik in Hafnarfjoru, with a third campus in Akureyri scheduled to launch later this year in Iceland. Recently, the company constructed a new plant outside of Stockholm, Sweden. In an appearance last year, atNorth's CEO Kristinsson stated that the company is developing a large-scale data center facility in northern Europe that may reach up to 50MW, but had not yet decided on a location.
