Portugal: EU approves e&'s PPF Telecom acquisition

Internet exchange operator DE-CIX is now offering its interconnection and cloud services in Sines, Portugal which will be hosted at Start Campus’ Sines DC facility outside Lisbon. The first building, with an initial capacity of 14MW, is expected to be operational in Q4 2024. The remaining five buildings are expected to all be operational by 2030.
“Welcoming DE-CIX to our Sines DC is a significant milestone and testimony of the growing importance of Sines as a connectivity hub,” said Robert Dunn, CEO at Start Campus. “Now customers will be able to have access to the world’s leading neutral Internet exchange operator and largest interconnection ecosystem at our premises, ensuring local traffic remains local, and global data is routed more efficiently.”
Theresa Bobis, regional director of southern Europe at DE-CIX, added: “Sines is poised to become a crucial hub for multiple subsea systems interconnecting and serving Southern Europe, with enhanced reach to Africa and other European markets, including North and South America. Expanding our Southern European footprint to Sines enhances connectivity for Portugal and beyond.”
