Equinix has finally completed the acquisition of the Indian operations of GPX Global Systems for $161 million. The purchase sees Equinix add two data centers in Mumbai to its portfolio. These facilities named Equinix MB1 and MB2 provide a combined 1,350 cabinets, with an additional 500 cabinets upon build-out. The data centers also have a total colocation space of over 90,000 square feet (8,200 sqm).
The GPX Mumbai 1 facility is the first Tier IV design-certified data center in India. It also has 30,000 square feet of space. On the other hand, the Mumbai2 facility will have 60,000 square feet of space upon full build-out. According to the president of Equinix Asia-Pacific, Jeremy Deutsch, "India presents enormous opportunities for digital leaders in Asia-Pacific. Bringing Platform Equinix to India not only solidifies Equinix's position as the leading digital infrastructure provider in Asia-Pacific but also provides a new option to local enterprises and multinationals operating in India to interconnect and manage their digital infrastructure in Mumbai."
Equinix has also appointed the former managing director of GPX India, Manoj Paul as the new managing director of Equinix India.
