A Yandex data center in Sasovo, Ryazan Oblast, Russia, has reportedly been hit by a drone strike, according to the Kyiv Independent. Open-source intelligence groups identified the facility as Yandex DC Sasovo, the company’s largest data center. Yandex Cloud’s status dashboard reported an ongoing power outage in its ru-central-b availability zone, with disruptions beginning at 1:31 a.m. local time.

The data center is located within the Sasta industrial complex, which houses workshops, R&D facilities, and a foundry and serves Russia’s defense industry. Yandex said the strike sparked a fire and forced the data center to suspend operations. It is reportedly the first major data center in Russia to be taken offline during the war with Ukraine. Several Ukrainian facilities operated by Parkovyi, MiroHost, Datagroup, Vodafone Ukraine, De Novo, Cosmonova, Omega Telecom, and Ukrtelecom have also sustained drone damage.

Yandex operates five major data centers in Russia, located in Vladimir, Sasovo, Ivanteevka, Mytishchi, and Kaluga Oblast. In April 2025, its Moscow cloud region suffered an outage following an incident at a supporting substation. Previously owned by a Netherlands-based holding company, Yandex separated its Russian and European operations in February 2024 amid the war in Ukraine. The European business became Nebius, an AI-focused cloud provider.Sasta_Sasovo.width-358.webp
