Digital Realty is developing a new cable landing station (CLS) at its LAX12 data center in Los Angeles, California. The company announced the project last week, with the facility expected to support subsea cables from 2028. Digital Realty has not disclosed how many cables the CLS will accommodate.
“This development reflects our continued focus on expanding Digital Realty’s role in supporting global connectivity,” said Andy Power, Digital Realty president and CEO. “By bringing together subsea landing infrastructure with our existing interconnection and data center platform, we are strengthening the intercontinental connectivity available across our Los Angeles campus and providing our customers with a more seamless and scalable environment for connecting across regions.”
Located at 2260 East El Segundo Boulevard in El Segundo, LAX12 opened in 2005. The two-story facility spans 129,000 sq ft (12,000 sqm) and offers around 7MW of capacity. It was developed by 365 Main and acquired by Digital Realty in 2010. The company’s LAX11 facility is also nearby. Digital Realty will develop the cable landing station in partnership with Assured Communications, which specializes in subsea infrastructure design and delivery.
