TierPoint Omaha Midlands : Cosentry’s Omaha-Midlands Data Center Becomes the First LEED Gold Certified Data Center in Iowa
Feb 27, 2021 | Posted by Eric Bell
OMAHA, NE (PRWEB) Cosentry, the Midwest leader in data center services, announced today that their Omaha-Midlands Data Center has achieved LEED Gold Certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), making it the only LEED Gold Data center in Nebraska and one of just 21 data centers nationwide.
Omaha-Midlands had previously been awarded Energy Star Certification in both 2012 and 2013.
LEED is recognized across the globe as the premier mark of achievement in energy efficient and green buildings, providing third party verification of energy efficient buildings. With over $30 million dollars a year in investment from the USGBC, LEED has tens of thousands of buildings with over 10.4 billion square feet of building space participating in the program. The rating system for existing buildings (LEED: EB+OM™) has seven credit categories of compliance and integrates EPA ENERGY STAR® ratings in the certification process, and assigns a score based on energy efficiency and sustainable ongoing operations, instead of anticipated goals.
“We are honored to have exceeded our own efficiency forecast and earned LEED Gold Certification this year. It means that our Omaha-Midlands Data Center has been proven to achieve market leading energy efficiency in practice, unlike the theoretical efficiency of newly constructed data centers,” said Jason Black, Cosentry’s Vice President of Data Center Services. “Thanks to the vision and execution of the data center management team, Cosentry has set the industry efficiency benchmark in the market for data center providers.”
“As a result of the energy-saving measures implemented at the Omaha-Midlands facility, Cosentry has saved hundreds of thousands of dollars a year by reducing power and water consumption as well as reducing CO2 emissions,” said Brad Hokamp, Chief Executive Officer with Cosentry. “These savings, realized by energy efficiency, have led to operational improvements and cost savings for Cosentry clients across our network of data centers.”
Achieving LEED Gold Certification for a data center requires substantial effort, which is why Omaha-Midlands is one of only two data centers in the world to prove LEED-Gold level efficiency over a 12- month period.
“Cosentry came to Morrissey because of our experience with LEED Certification as well as our strong history of successful partnerships,” said Sarah Gudeman, Mechanical Engineer and Energy Analyst with Morrissey Engineering. “This project meets the intent of the LEED program in the truest sense, by going above and beyond to decrease its environmental footprint and by documenting compliance through third party certification. The Omaha-Midlands Data Center is performing in the top tier of large data centers and maximizing its triple bottom line. This takes real commitment from Cosentry, as well as strong leadership and vision.”
Mr. Hokamp received the award in a ceremony at the Omaha-Midlands Data Center on Feb. 18th, 2014.
