Cologix is expanding its data center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by adding a new data hall. With the new MIN5 data center now available for pre-leasing, the company has increased its presence in the Minneapolis, Minnesota, market. Located in the 511 Building carrier hotel, also known as the Minnesota Technology Center, MIN5 will provide 10,000 square feet and 1.5 megawatts. It is scheduled to debut in the third quarter.
Cologix CRO Chris Heinrich stated that MIN5 provides them with additional capacity to satisfy the high demand in this market for direct connectivity options and colocation. Customers are concerned with latency. As the only colocation provider in the Minneapolis region to offer direct access to more than 300 network and cloud service providers, such as cloud onramps to Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute, Amazon Web Services Direct Connect, and Google Cloud Interconnect, a lot of their customers are surprised to learn that they can deploy in almost any cloud platform without having to travel further and to more expensive cities.
Cologix operates four additional data halls in the 511 Building, designated MIN1-4 and comprising approximately 45,000 square feet. The first MIN opened in 2012, the second in 2014, the third in 2015, and the fourth in 2020. In 2020, Cologix acquired vXchnge's data center in the building. The 273,000-square-foot, three-story 511 Building was constructed in 1982 and renovated in 2003. DataBank is also a tenant of the facility, providing just under 1 MW of power across 8,170 square feet that it inherited from zColo.
