Aptum Technologies: Cogeco Peer 1 rebrands as Aptum Technologies

Aug 20, 2019 | Posted by Eric Bell

Cogeco Peer 1 has been rebranded to Aptum Technologies. The rebranding comes after Cogeco Peer 1 was acquired in April 2019 by Digital Colony, a global investment firm dedicated to strategic opportunities in digital infrastructure.

Rebranding is popular for colocation and telecom providers

  • AT&T data centers were sold and rebranded as Evoque in January 2019
  • CenturyLink’s data centers were sold and rebranded as Cyxtera in 2017
  • Peak 10 and ViaWest merged and rebranded as Flexential in 2018
  • Reliance Globalcom became Global Cloud Xchange in 2014
  • TDS rebranded their data centers as OneNeck IT Solutions in 2014
  • Cequel was rebranded as Tierpoint in 2012

Two Business Units

Headquartered in Toronto, Aptum will operate with two focused business units — Data Center and Fiber. The Data Center business will concentrate on enabling multi-cloud services for enterprises. The Fiber business will be Canada’s first independent, neutral-host provider of small cell and 5G infrastructure, and enterprise and wholesale fiber connectivity with an extensive metro fiber network across greater Toronto and Montreal.

Susan Bowen, Aptum CEO, wrote on the Aptum blog, "Moving forward, we’ll operate with two business units. Our data center business will concentrate on helping customers across North America, Europe and LATAM roll out multi-cloud services and reinforce our position as a leading hybrid solutions managed provider. Our fiber business will be Canada’s first independent, neutral-host provider of small cell and 5G infrastructure. We’ll also continue to offer enterprise and wholesale fiber connectivity through our extensive metro networks across Toronto and Montreal, as well as through our international MPLS network."
