According to Journal & Topics, CloudHQ has acquired United Airlines’ office campus in Mount Prospect, Illinois. Report has it that CloudHQ bought the property to make way for the development of a new 1.5 million square feet, $2.5 billion data center. Bill Cooney, the Development Director of Mount Prospect, told Journal & Topics that CloudHQ plans to buy all United Airlines’ property along the Dempster and Algonquin roads. However, United’s on-site data center is exempted from the potential purchase.

The documents filed with the Mount Prospect planning commission show that CloudHQ aims to demolish the existing buildings on the property. It also plans to erect three data center buildings, each having up to 560,000 square feet of space and over 80MW of capacity. CloudHQ also plans for an on-site substation. The proposed data centers will be built over three phases. One of the data centers will have up to 26,600 square feet of office space, while the other two will have up to 31,630 square feet each. The demolition process of the existing structures will take approximately one year. It will also take up to one year to construct each data center.
