UK-based cloud provider Civo has launched a sovereign cloud region in Mumbai, India as a  part of a $25.52 million investment in the country. This investment will see India join Civo's existing regions across Europe, North America, and Asia. Civo said it aims to provide an equitable model of cloud computing in India that prioritizes data sovereignty and cost efficiency.

Mark Boost, CEO and co-founder of Civo, said: “At Civo, we believe that innovators the world over deserve fully sovereign, secure, and scalable cloud solutions. India’s surging cloud market has a golden opportunity to forge a new path that puts users first, and we’re thrilled to have the chance to offer our Indian customers cloud-native technologies and help businesses in the region to build their technologies on a foundation of transparency and fairness.”

Anna Shotbolt, Deputy Trade Commissioner for South Asia at the British High Commission added: “The UK’s tech sector is the third largest in the world, valued at $1 trillion. The UK and India are committed to working together on the defining technologies of this decade, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors, through the recently launched UK-India Technology Security Initiative.
