A cannabis firm is exploring plans to redevelop a former golf course in New York into a data center campus. OTC-listed Weed Inc. said it aims to repurpose its subsidiary’s 44-acre Sugar Hill Golf Course site in Chautauqua County, near Lake Erie, though full project details have not been disclosed.
"This is a pivotal moment for Weed Inc as we move to transform a dormant asset into a potentially high-revenue, future-facing infrastructure platform," stated Glenn E. Martin, CEO of Weed Inc. "Data centers are among the most sought-after real estate asset classes globally, and we believe this project could significantly enhance long-term shareholder value."
Weed Inc. first acquired the site in 2017 and finalized the purchase in early 2022. Located at 7060 East Lake Road, the company had initially planned a “cannabis-friendly” lakefront resort, but the project never materialized.
“New York State shut down the golf course in 2020 due to Covid, but Weed didn't buy the golf course to go golfing,” CEO Martin said in a statement in 2022, noting the site’s water rights and wastewater management system.
