The State of Rio Grande do Sul’s information and communication center plans to develop a disaster recovery data center. Procergs (Centro de Tecnologia da Informação e Comunicação do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul SA), will be in charge of the project. The firm will receive BRL 87.9 million ($18.3m). Part of the funds received will be used to develop a new disaster recovery data center. The other part will be used to update the company’s infrastructure, information security, and telecommunications.

The Brazilian state is looking to achieve 100% of its digital services. The Secretary of Planning, Governance, and Management, Claudio Gastal, said implementing digital government needs Procergs to be updated and strong to face the new hurdles of public management. The state suffered a devastating cyberattack in February. This attack took down most of the state’s websites. Procergs’ website was also a casualty.
