Adista and Datafarm Energy are partnering to deliver a 250kW data center powered by bio-gas, which Adista will operate, and Datafarm will power with exclusively with renewable energies from the recovery of agricultural bio-waste.” The location of the facility is yet to be announced, and the source of biogas supply is reportedly secured for a period of five to 10 years.
Speaking about the motivations behind the project, Olivier Grosjeanne, technical director of Adista, said control of the “environmental impact of the digital” is now a “major issue” of sustainable development. Further to this, Grosjeanne said, “Adista has set itself the strategic priority of becoming the benchmark operator in the market in terms of Social and Environmental Responsibility.”
Commenting on the choice of biogas, Stéphane Petibon, CEO of Datafarm Energy, said as a renewable energy, it emits little CO2 of fossil origin and is not intermittent like wind and solar. Adding that, it can be “perfectly phased with the consumption profiles of the data centers.”
