Amazon AWS: AWS To Develop a Data Center in Warrenton, Virginia

Amazon Web Services plans to develop a new data center in Warrenton, Northern Virginia. The company has already filed with officials to develop a single-story, 220,000 square feet (20,400 square meters) data center at the intersection of Lee Highway and Blackwell Road in Warrenton town. AWS bought the land in Warrenton for $40 million in September 2021. The acquisition of the 41.7-acre land happened after the town changed its zoning laws to allow for data center development after Amazon requested the change.

However, despite the zoning law change, data center development in the town is not expected to surge. This is because the town’s officials say that there are only two parcels of land in the town suitable for data center development. The other land is a 28.8-acre plot located at 615 Falmouth Street. AWS already has a massive presence in Northern Virginia. It has facilities in Prince William. Fairfax, and Loudoun Counties. The company is also planning to expand in Culpeper and Fauquier Counties.
