The Alabama city of Auburn City will soon get a new data center. The 65,700 square foot Mill Creek Data Center will be located on 52 acres of newly developed land in the city's Auburn Technology Park at 406 West Veterans Boulevard. The data center was granted approval by the City Council this week, as was the first to be reported by Opelika-Auburn News. The Mill Creek Data Center will bring "very high tech, very high paying" jobs to Auburn, according to Megan McGowan-Crouch, Auburn's city manager. They will have a small number of outstanding employment, he predicted.

The new data center, according to Ward 8 Councilman Tommy Dawson, is an excellent fit for the industrial park. The project is being led by the Alabama engineering firm LBYD Incorporated, probably on behalf of another end-user. Mayor Ron Anders promised to release additional details about the project at a later time, so no information regarding construction timelines was provided. Auburn, which is a part of Lee County, lies about 35 miles west of Columbus, near the Georgia/Alabama line. The only other colocation provider in the area is AUBix, which opened a one-story, 40,000-square-foot facility on Samford Avenue last year. Hyperscale campuses for companies like Meta and Google are located in Alabama but farther north, close to the Tennessee border. Numerous facilities are operated by the local company DC Blox in the state, as well as further north in Huntsville and Birmingham.
