Data center accounted for 64% of AMD's revenue in the quarter, up from 47% a year earlier, CNBC reported. The Verge put the share at roughly 63%. AMD credited demand for its EPYC server processors and the launch of its Instinct MI450 graphics processor for the segment's growth. Client and Gaming revenue fell 8% to $3.7 billion, with gaming down 40% on lower semi-custom and graphics sales.
"We delivered a record quarter with revenue exceeding the high end of our guidance as Data Center segment sales nearly doubled year-over-year," said Lisa Su, AMD chair and CEO. On the earnings call, Su called it "the largest and most profitable in our history," The Verge reported. Non-GAAP earnings per share came to $2.09, up 74% from a year earlier.
AMD said Anthropic, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure are running workloads on its first Helios rack-scale systems, which pair Instinct MI450 GPUs with 6th Gen EPYC processors. HPE said Vultr will deploy the first Helios systems that HPE builds. Chief financial officer Jean Hu told analysts that data center should be more than 80% of total company revenue in 2027, The Verge reported.
AMD is also a customer of the buildout. The chipmaker leases AI capacity at Core Scientific's Pecos campus in Texas, with first delivery targeted for the first half of 2027, according to Baxtel's site record. In October, AMD agreed to provide credit support for the 222 MW lease at Fermi America's Project Matador in Carson County, Texas; Fermi America develops the campus and TensorWave leases the capacity.
In the United States, Baxtel counts more than 5,500 data center sites, operated by 855 providers and led by Amazon AWS with 415 sites.
