IXAfrica buys 11 acres for second Nairobi data center facility

IXAfrica has bought land in Nairobi, Kenya, for a second data center site. The company executed a contract with local real estate developer Tilisi Developments plc to acquire 11 acres of land in the Kenyan capital for the development of its second data center campus. Research is currently being conducted to determine the precise size of the campus, with initial estimates indicating a facility with a capacity of 30MW or more.

After nearly a decade of planning, IXAfrica was founded in 2021 and is constructing a 20MW facility on a 186,215-square-foot site in Nairobi along Mombasa Road. In February of 2021, construction on the Nairobi Campus One site began.

Found 19 miles from Nairobi CBD, Tilisi is a 400-acre master-planned and mixed-use project.  Since 2018, it has been in development. Last year, for $50 million, the Africa-focused investment firm Helios Investment Partners acquired a majority stake in IXAfrica.

There are 12 data centers in Nairobi.
