Interxion: Foresting project underway in Palencia, Spain

Interxion has announced that it is sponsoring an afforestation project in Palencia, Spain, as part of its sustainability efforts. This project with Reforestum will see the planting of trees in non-wooded areas spanning 24 hectares.

Unlike reforestation which replenishes forest growth in areas that have been depleted, afforestation is the process of creating new forests, creating a more diverse ecosystem.

In the past, the data center company has worked with Reforestum on similar projects, such as one in Picos de Europa and a collaboration with International Cooperation and Living Territories and Reforest'ActionReforest'Action.

This is just one example of the ways in which Interxion, the European arm of Digital Realty, is making good on its sustainability pledge. In 2020, it pledged carbon-neutral certification for its french data centers by the end of the year, and it also became a signatory of the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact to become carbon-neutral by 2050.
