In August 2017, Apple announced plans to build a 400,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art data center in Waukee, Iowa, to better serve North American users of iMessage, Siri, the App Store, and other Apple services. Like all Apple data centers, the new facility will run entirely on renewable energy from day one.
Facility Outside Des Moines Will Run on 100 Percent Renewable Energy
We will be developing a campus next to our existing facility that will be home to two new buildings. This new construction will bring our total Prineville footprint to more than 3.2 million square feet and will represent an additional investment of $750 million.
Apple built a 50MW solar power plant on 300 acres in Florence, Ariz., which is used to power its Mesa data center.
Apple built a three of 100-acre solar arrays adjacent to the company's Maiden NC data center. Each solar field will produce 20-megawatts.
