In a major move for tech development, French IT company Metavisio Thomson Computing has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build a large-scale data center in South Korea's Gangwon Province. The agreement was made between Metavisio's subsidiary, Technology 1 Thomson Computing, and the South Korean energy firm BKB Energy Co., Ltd. (BKB).
This ambitious project will be located at a former mining site in Yeongwol-gun. It's supported by a confirmed 260MW power supply from the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) and is currently undergoing feasibility and environmental studies. To fully fund the development, up to $900 million will be invested in BKB Energy through convertible bonds over the year 2025. The two companies will form a 50:50 joint venture, to be called Technology 1 Thomson Computing Korea, to manage the project.
