The Norwich Bioscience Institutes (NBI) Data Centre, funded by a £20 million BBSRC investment, will feature advanced, high-density computing to support the Earlham Institute, John Innes Centre, Quadram Institute, and The Sainsbury Laboratory. Located within the John Innes Centre on Colney Lane, the single-story facility will cover over 1,100 sqm (11,840 sq ft). Managed by the Earlham Institute and NBI Research Computing, it’s set to be built by early 2026 and fully operational by early 2027.

The NBI Partnership (NBIP) provides essential non-scientific services to four leading research institutions: the John Innes Centre, Quadram Institute Bioscience, Earlham Institute, and The Sainsbury Laboratory. These institutions collaborate to address critical 21st-century challenges, including environmental sustainability, food security, and healthy aging.  

Over 2,500 scientists leverage the partnership's support to develop practical solutions and benefit from the infrastructure necessary to translate their discoveries into commercially viable ventures.  

NBIP employs approximately 150 staff members to support the research staff, students, and visiting workers located within the Norwich Research Park.

The partnership's services encompass a wide range of functions, including Research Computing, Computing & Information Services, Research Grants & Contracts, Facilities Management, Health & Safety, Finance, and Human Resources.
