Echelon: Arklow DUB20 Campus

Echelon is building a large data centre campus at the former IFI site at Avoca River Park outside of Arklow.

2025 Update

Irish data center firm Echelon has broken ground on DUB20 data center campus around Dublin after waiting several years for a connection to the local grid. The overall campus could total five buildings.

2024 Update

Echelon Data Centres secured a grid connection for its long awaited planned €3.5 billion ($3.89bn) data center campus in County Wicklow, Ireland.

Irish data center firm Echelon reportedly grew "frustrated" with the lengthy process of connecting its planned project to the electricity grid. The DUB20 project, located outside Dublin in County Wicklow’s Arklow, was reportedly outside Dublin’s constrained area, where EirGrid had stated no further data center connection applications could be granted.

First announced in 2019 and set on a 100-acre site south of the Irish capital, DUB20 is set to offer 45,000 sqm (484,000 sq ft) of space in the first phase. The site will include a biogas power plant and be connected to a nearby wind farm.

The first phase was originally due to go live in 2021; plans were then pushed back to break ground in Q3 2021 and be operational by Q3 2022.

The site was sold for €10m through Arklow agent Raymond Gaffney and it is expected that the construction phase will create 450 jobs followed by another 90 positions to operate the facility.
