Data Center Campus
Equinix: Cape Town Campus
Campus at a Glance
Equinix is developing a hyperscale data center campus in Cape Town, South Africa, spanning a 122,545 m² (approx. 30-acre) site inside the King Air Industria logistics park.
After the Cape Town Municipal Planning Tribunal approved the rezoning of the land parcel, a dedicated "data center" use category was created to accommodate a second 72,542 m² facility alongside an already-permitted 50,000 m² site. Despite securing this planning clearance to expand its national presence beyond Johannesburg, Equinix has yet to submit a formal site development application and contends with mounting local opposition. Groups including Foxglove and Housing Assembly have raised concerns regarding power consumption, water usage, and environmental impacts, prompting public demonstrations and heightened community scrutiny.
