Vocus has announced that it is closing its data center in the Melbourne central business district in September. The facility is going to be demolished and replaced with a massive office complex. Vocus noted that arrangements had been made with customers to move to other facilities. It has also offered the option of shifting to third-party sites or its other two data centers.
The facility has 43,000 square feet of space (4,000 sqm), and it was first built by Primus before M2 acquired it in 2012. Ownership of the site then changed hand in 2016 when Vocus acquired it. The landlord of the site Charter Hall is going to demolish the facility and build two large towers. Also, one of the towers will have 28 stories, while the other will have 34 stories. It is estimated that the buildings will cost $1.5 billion. The date of completion hasn’t been communicated.
