French energy company Valorem is planning a data center in Savonlinna, Finland. Valorem Energies Finland and the city have prepared a zoning agreement for the project. The facility is planned for a 32-hectare site in the Nätkin industrial area, with the first phase expected to provide 30–50MW from 2028 and expand beyond 100MW by 2032.
The data center would supply its waste heat to Savonlinna’s district heating network. Located in Finland’s South Savo region, Savonlinna is a town in the southeast of the country. An amendment to the city plan will be submitted to the city council for consideration at the end of September. Valorem’s plans for a data center in Savonlinna were first reported in May.
Valorem has around 1.5GW of wind, solar, and hydro projects operating or under development in Finland. Founded in 1994, the company has more than 8.5GW of projects across Europe. The company is also planning a 60MW data center and solar-plus-storage campus on a 55-hectare site in Eurajoki, western Finland.Valorem is also developing another project in Kankaanpää’s Halme industrial area, although details have not been disclosed.
