Transtelecom has announced that it developed a backup data center for Sberbank’s operations in Kazakhstan. Sberbank is a Russian bank, while Transtelecom is a Kazakhstani telecommunication company. The data center is located in Karaganda, to the northeast of Kazakhstan. The companies did not reveal the details of the data center. According to Transtelecom, the data center was developed as part of a disaster-resistant IT infrastructure project for Sberbank.
Sberbank’s two major data centers are located in Almaty, Kazakhstan, which is a seismic zone. The company later decided to develop a disaster-proof facility to ensure that the information system remains online during earthquakes or other disasters. The new data center allows Sberbank to switch bank services within four hours. Earlier in the month, Sberbank successfully switched from the main facilities in Almaty to the backup data center in Karaganda. The backup facility then ran for a day before it was switched back to the main facility.
