Tonomus, a digital corporation within the new Neom city in Saudi Arabia, opened a data center. Neom is a plan to build a massive new smart metropolis on the coast of the Red Sea in the northwestern Saudi province of Tabuk. The Public Investment Fund, the nation's sovereign wealth fund, owns 100 percent of the Neom corporation. In October 2018, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman informed Bloomberg that Neom would be completed in 2025.
This week, the organizations announced the opening of a digital communications facility in the Octagon, a new industrial neighborhood in the city. The Tonomus comprises 193,750 square feet and a two-story office facility. Neom Telecommunications Center reportedly houses a "high-capacity, highly efficient" data center to facilitate 5G, satellite, and fiber connectivity, as well as to provide private cloud services in the Neom region.
According to Tonomus, the data center will fuel a software-driven network and a secure private cloud that will service up to 60 locations and approximately 1,800 buildings. Huawei, STC solutions, XFusion, NESMA, Comatec, GGC, SARA, RAM, Redington, TSS, Fortinet, F5, NEC, PSIM, G2K, Samir Group, Exclusive Networks, and Maxvision are among the project's vendors and technology partners.
In October 2021, Neom and EzdiTek announced a $500 million joint venture, subsequently renamed ZeroPointDC, to construct and operate data centers in the new city. For this initiative, EzdiTek has partnered with global engineering and architecture firms RED and Gensler. The venture will be owned 51 percent by Neom and 49 percent by EzdiTek, and will reportedly be located on a floating industrial district called Oxagon.
