TikTok has confirmed hosting its data in the US in Oracle’s data center. The Chinese social media company revealed in a blog post that it has been working with Oracle for over a year to protect better its systems, app, and US user data. TikTok noted that the company has now completed a significant milestone by changing the default storage location of its US user data to Oracle’s infrastructure.
The company will be housing the user data in Oracle’s data center in Texas. However, Oracle will be offering more of a Bare Metal service than the traditional Oracle Cloud infrastructure service. TikTok said in a statement that it is now routing all of its US user traffic to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. It also noted that it is still using its data centers in Singapore and the US as a backup, but US user information from these data centers will soon be deleted as work continues.
