A 171-mile underwater cable that would strengthen the connection between the two nations has been revealed by the UAE-based telecom Du and the Omani mobile provider Omantel. The cable, known as the Oman Emirates Gateway (OEG), will immediately link the two nations. Today, there are undersea and land links connecting the two nations. The OEG will also connect Equinix MC1 in Barka, Oman, as well as Datamena DX1 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
According to Talal Al Mamari, CEO of Omantel, this connection will greatly facilitate the ability of hyperscalers, content creators, and international carriers who are currently housed in these data centers to take advantage of improved connectivity services, higher capacities, and the ability to directly link their Point of Presence (POPs) in the area. Al Mamari affirmed that improved connectivity between the two data centers would draw more international businesses to the area and enhance connectivity, both of which will enhance customer experience.
A number of subsea cables, including the Asia Africa Europe 1 (AAE-1), 2Africa, FALCON, and the Bay of Bengal Gateway, travel via Oman and the UAE (BBG). Moreover, a 7-mile underwater cable known as the Oman Australia Cable links Oman and Australia (OAC).
