ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) Thailand is constructing its third data center in Bangkok, Thailand. STT Bangkok 3 will be located in the One Bangkok district and will have 2MW of IT capacity when it opens at the end of 2023, as is currently scheduled. This facility will join the other two STT GDC data centers in the district, bringing the total capacity to 42 MW.
Bangkok 3 will be a Tier III facility certified by the Uptime Institute and powered by "district cooling energy." In December 2022, the company began evaluating the viability of deploying cold power from liquefied natural gas in its Thailand data centers with PTT Digital Solutions, the IT services division of Thailand's national oil and gas company. If this is the same "cooling energy" described for Bangkok 3, the data center will be fuelled by liquified and re-gasified natural gas produced by plants. At the point where regasification occurs, energy and heat absorption are released.
A 1.93-million-square-meter development comprising workplaces, retail space, residences, an entertainment arena, and a public park will be constructed at the site selected for One Bangkok, which will be a "Smart City."
China, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Singapore, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and Germany are among the countries where STT GDC operates data centers. The company's first data center in Bangkok opened in September 2021 with a 20MW capacity and a 40MW expansion potential.
