Verizon Wireless: Roswell City Council announces approval of Verizon data center expansion

Roswell City Council has given Verizon’s Rowswell data center the go-ahead after it unanimously approved the company’s rezoning request. The company’s expansion plans seek to develop a 50,800 square foot (4,700 sqm) facility and office on the site, which is as of yet undeveloped.

Although the company reportedly purchased the property years ago, and rezoning was initially approved, permitting the construction of this new facility, following zoning revisions in 2014, under the OP (Office Professional) district zoning, this approval was nullified. Now, however, the council has approved rezoning 10325 Turner Road & Old Alabama Connector from OP (Office Professional) to CIV (Civic and Institutional) and with an added Conditional Use for “Major Utility.”

As is a common theme when it comes to data center expansion, locals in the area have raised issue with the facility and voiced concerns around noise pollution in the “middle of a peaceful residential area.” As a result, the original proposal has been changed from containing three pods to two.
