Princeton Digital Group (PDG) has signed a 25-year power consumption agreement (PCA) with Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) to procure solar energy in India. The deal will see the data center firm receive power generated by a solar project located in Nanded district, Maharashtra.
This location is roughly 600 km from its 48 MW MU1 data center in Airoli, Mumbai. The company shared that the agreement aligns with its plans for its MU1 data center to be powered with up to 50% renewable energy, and its wider 2030 net-zero goals.
Vipin Shirsat, managing director, India at PDG, said that the agreement with Tata Power enables the company to offer "world-class sustainable data center services" by substituting part of conventional energy with renewable energy. "This partnership is testament to PDG's commitment to work towards achieving Net Zero for our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030," Shirsat added.
According to Shirsat, sustainability is a "core business" focus for PDG and its environment strategy is driven by procurement of renewable energy, energy and resource efficiency, green design and construction and technology and innovation.
"As a multi-country operator in Asia, PDG is working with leading renewable energy companies in the region to transition its portfolio of data centres from conventional power to low or zero carbon energy options," said Shirsat.
"We are excited to announce our association with Princeton Digital Group. TPREL is committed to making sustainable energy attainable via such industry collaborations. We look forward to continuing our association with PDG as the company grows its footprint in India," said Ashwinikumar Patil, chief – O&M & CSR, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited & CEO, WREL.
