Prince William County’s planning commission has voted 6-1 to pause the development of a Gainesville data center until late January. CTP-II LLC proposed the data center project in question. CTP-II LLC wanted 22.72 acres of land to be rezoned from business and light industrial to data center construction. The location proposed for the rezoning is at the intersection of Catharpin Road and John Marshall Highway, on Route 55.

The data center development would include two facilities. The company intends to invest up to $556 million in the facility, generating around $41 million in tax revenue over the next ten years. There were concerns from locals that the proposed facility could cause huge overhead transmission lines that will cut through minority communities.
