Gridscale, an industry leader in hyper-converged infrastructure, and OVHcloud are in exclusive takeover talks. The deal, which won't affect the fiscal year 2023 and will help OVHcloud with its Edge computing goals, is anticipated to close at the start of 2024. There has been no disclosure of the transaction's value.
Gridscale operates in Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands in addition to its German headquarters. The company provides public cloud services on a constrained infrastructure and bases its business strategy on providing multi-tenant infrastructure-as-a-service and platform-as-a-service solutions. The acquisition will enable the French cloud provider OVHcloud to realize its vision of opening multiple new cloud regions by 2026, and it will also increase the company's potential for on-premises cloud products.
Gridscale's management and staff will join OVHcloud, and the company's Edge computing solution will be incorporated into OVHcloud's offerings.
Over 1.6 million clients in over 140 countries are serviced by OVHcloud's 37 data centers across 4 continents. It recently established a foothold in Mumbai, India, but has been cagey about providing information about its location or capabilities. The cloud provider's entire data center was destroyed by fire in 2021, an incident the company refuses to discuss further.
