Oracle: Oracle opens new data center in South Africa

Oracle has announced that it has opened a new data center in South Africa, making it the company's 37th "cloud region," with a view to open at least 44 cloud regions this year.

Looking ahead, for the rest of the year, the company has not announced plans for further data centers in Africa; however, in 2023, more could arise in West Africa, Cherian Varghese, regional MD for Middle East and Africa.

That said, this expansion will not come without challenges, considering the infrastructure issues including high power prices and power cuts. Oracle will navigate this by putting more funds into back-up power.
