Oracle has announced the opening of a cloud region in Abu Dhabi, making it the firm’s second cloud region in the United Arab Emirates. The company opened its first cloud region in the UAE in 2020 after opening a facility in partnership with Etisalat in 2019. Oracle now has four cloud facilities out of the six planned in the Middle East with the new cloud region. It has two in the UAE and one each in Israel and Saudi Arabia. Oracle also plans to open one facility each in Israel and Saudi Arabia.
UAE’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, commented on the development. He said the company’s decision to open another cloud region shows that the UAE embraces advanced technologies, digital transformation, and the applications of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. He noted that Oracle’s continued investment in the country would only help accelerate the UAE’s development process by providing critical infrastructure.
Oracle revealed that it plans to have a minimum of 44 cloud regions before the end of 2022. It opened its 30th and 31st regions this year in Brazil and Israel. It also wants to have 38 available before the year runs out.
