México Telecom Partners (MTP), a Mexican telecommunications company, has opened a new data center in Mexico City. The entity owned by DigitalBridge reportedly put in $17.5 million in the endeavor. Location and infrastructure specifications were not disclosed. The facility is not intended for hyperscale providers but rather for the retail market in Santa Fe, where there's high consumer demand, particularly from fintech and financial services businesses.
MTP was established in 2014 as a 600-tower company by Macquarie Asset Management and DigitalBridge. Currently, the corporation operates over 3,150 towers in Mexico. Additionally, the company offers Edge computing solutions from 59 locations nationwide.
In 2011, the Macquarie Mexican Infrastructure Fund (MMIF) and Global Tower Partners (GTP) acquired an inventory of 199 towers in Mexico from Telefonica. American Tower acquired the Mexican towers in 2013 when GTP was sold. In 2014, Digital Bridge paid $45 million to acquire the shares of Macquarie USA and other shareholders to form MTP.
