Missing SAP data center SSD was discovered on eBay

eBay displayed a missing SSD disk from the SAP data center in Walldorf, Germany. In November of last year, it was reported that four SSD disks went missing from the SAP facility in Baden-Württemberg, southwest Germany. However, one of the disks popped up on eBay and was purchased by an SAP employee who confirmed that it was one of the missing disks and held the personal information of more than 100 SAP workers.
This led to an inquiry that suggested the disks were stolen rather than merely "missing." Despite the data center being a "secure location," per the investigation, no physical checks were performed on departing personnel. After leaving the data center, the disks were transferred to an unsecured building within the complex, where they were subsequently stolen. The remaining three disks are still at large.
This is reportedly the fifth time in the past two years that SAP has had disks go AWOL from its European data centers. Despite these incidents, SAP is actively promoting its cloud services, unveiling an array of new cloud features in May this year, including generative AI. The company recently welcomed Diageo as a client for its cloud platform.
